
Dates and
Location
The
Saskatoon 2008 Can-Am Police-Fire Games will be held July 13th through 20th,
2008. The events will be conducted
throughout the greater Saskatoon area.
Purpose of the
Games
The
purpose of the games is to promote physical fitness and camaraderie among and
between law enforcement and fire service personnel and agencies.

§
All
sworn Federal, State/Provincial, County, Municipal and law enforcement
officers, weight control officers, corrections officers, and dispatchers
employed by a law enforcement agency and E.M.S. personnel employed by a
Government Agency (male and female, active or retired) are eligible. Police reservists and cadets who have 180
days of continuous law enforcement service, have received formal training in
law enforcement and have powers of arrest are eligible. In Canada, this
includes Police Cadets, Special Constables and Auxiliary members of police
services.
§
Eligible
fire service personnel includes both paid and volunteer, dispatchers, military
fire personnel, (male or female, active or retired) who have received formal training as a firefighter and have
180-days of continuous fire service.
§
Eligible
EMS personnel includes E.M.S. personnel employed by a Governmental Agency (male
or female, active or retired) who have received formal training as an EMS
provider and have 180 days of continuous service.
§
Eligible
Law Enforcement and Fire Service personnel and E.M.S. from any Country,
Province, State, County and City may compete.
NOTE: Spouses of eligible
participants are also eligible to compete.
A spouse must complete a Registration Form listing the agency
information representing the eligible spouse.

Should there be less than three
participants in any age category, participants in that category will
automatically be moved to the closest lower age category or next highest weight
division.
Important: The host
reserves the right to cancel any sport/event.
§
All
sports, except multiple event sports, curling and hockey, must have a minimum
of five paid applicants or teams or that sport may be cancelled. In this case, the applicant will be notified
so that he/she will have the option of competing in another sport/event, or
cancel his/her registration.
§
Sports
with multiple events must have a minimum of three paid applicants in each event
within the sport or that may be cancelled.
If the minimum amount (3) of the competitors do sign up for a particular
event but only one or two show up to compete, the competitor(s) can still compete
and receive a medal in the event.
§
Curling/hockey
requires a minimum of ten paid teams or that sport may be cancelled.
Unsportsmanlike Conduct
The
purpose of the Can-Am Police-Fire Games is to promote camaraderie among and
between law enforcement and fire service personnel and agencies. Unsportsmanlike conduct is unacceptable.
§
Unsportsmanlike
conduct will not be condoned during, before or after the competition. Any behavior, which brings discredit upon
the Saskatoon 2008 Can-Am Police-Fire Games, the City of Saskatoon, law
enforcement or fire service communities, will not be tolerated. Any harassment, physical or verbal assault
on officials, competitors, spectators, coordinators, or any person will meet
with immediate action.
§
As
with the tradition of the games, the Saskatoon
2008 Can-Am Police Fire Games are committed to behaving and expecting others to behave in ways that
demonstrate our systems and values relating to the respectful treatment of each
member of our community, including all participants and officials of the
Games. We believe that we are
individually and collectively responsible for our behavior, and that we are fully
accountable for our actions. We take
initiative and responsibility for our own participation and learning, and
maintain an awareness of the differences that exist within our community in
order to avoid actions that diminish the respect and importance of others.
Bigotry has no place with within our community, nor does the right to denigrate
another human being on the basis of age, physical or developmental challenge,
national origin, sexual orientation, race, gender, or religious
affiliation. We will not tolerate
verbal or written abuse, threats, intimidation, violence or other forms against
any member of our community, which includes participants and officials of the
Games. Likewise, we will not accept
ignorance, anger, alcohol and/or substance abuse as an excuse, reason or
rationale for such behavior.
§
As
such, any incidents of the above mentioned behavior would be strictly dealt
with in accordance with the City of Saskatoon Harassment Policy.
§
Competitors
are prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages during competition and
alcohol is prohibited on the field or within area of competition.
§
Controlled
substances are prohibited from being used illegally by any competitor.
§
The
Host reserves the right to conduct random drug testing.
§
National,
state or provincial law enforcement or fire service agencies may combine with
members of the same agency from throughout the country, state or province to
form a team.
§
Any
department/detachment with less than 100 eligible members may team with another
local department/detachment of less than 100 members within the same State or
Province as long as there is no emphasis on selecting an "all-star"
team. (Law enforcement and Fire service
personnel may combine). Exception: State and Federal agencies with detachment
under a 100 may join with other local agencies to form a team. Exceptions have also been made in the past
for doubles competition on an individual request basis or on site with the
approval of the event coordinators and participants.
§
Games
coordinators shall approve all team entries.
§
Non-playing
coaches must submit a registration form and waiver. A non-playing coach must also submit the
registration fee to be eligible to receive a medal with their team.
§
A
Team must enter the classification of the youngest member of the team or the
Open Classification.
Competitors
may enter only one sport/event classification.
Competitors entering sports/events that offer doubles competition may
only enter the Open Classification or the Classification of the youngest member
of the doubles team.
Gold,
silver and bronze medals will be awarded to individuals, doubles and all
registered members of teams placing first, second and third.
